WSS Backup Server & Enhancements

The WSS Backup Server and Enhancements is a Windows 98/NT/2000 program that provides a real-time data display of remote Medar Weld Support System (WSS) Welders Stepper information. The program allows an operator to monitor the stepper status in a graphical format or as a single gun data monitor. The graphical data may be displayed and sorted by the Gun name, Weld count or Dress Count.

WSS Backup Server

The WSS Backup Server is an SCO Unix computer with a RAID-5 Disk system an tape backup. The WSS Backup Server works as a main shared disk drive to the remote WSS computers. A WSS Backup control program is added to each WSS. The new program provides an automatic backup of the WSS configuration files to the WSS Backup Server once a day( about 3:00AM). Also provided is a WSS restore program that allows a user to restore a WSS from the archived data files.

WSS Enhancement Tools

The WSS Enhancement Tools are a set of Unix Icons that provide easy control of the added tools to the WSS Unix computers and the WSS Unix Backup Server computer.

·        Check WSS Network – Provides a display report of the WSS computers, WSS printers and WSS Backup Server computer network status.

·        Plant Pager – Allows a user to send a message to a remote plant pager.

·        Serv. To Tape Backup – Provides a step by step procedure to generate a tape backup of all the WSS Backup Server data files including archived WSS Backup data files.

·        Tape to Serv. Restore – Provides a step-by-step procedure to resort a WSS Backup tape to the WSS Backup Server.

·        UPS – Provides a remote control program to the WSS Unix computers and the WSS Backup Server to access the APC UPS Backup Power Supply. This program is used to check and setup the ACP UPS Backup Power Supply units.

WSS Unix Computer Printer Reports

WSS Weld Control Data Change Report

The WSS Weld Control Data Change Report is generated when setup data, weld schedule or stepper data is changed. The WSS Weld control sends a Data Change event message to the WSS Unix computer. This Medlan message is used to trigger the data change report generator. The report generator program uploads the changed data from the remote WSS Weld control to the WSS computers Current data file. A line-by-line comparison report is generated using the WSS Welder data and the WSS data in the Master directory. The report highlights any changes or deletions. The report header provides the Time, Date and weld control changed.

X Windows Access for WSS from WIN32 clients

The X-Windows Access will provide the ability to display and use Medar’s standard XWSS software from a WIN32 client.  This will allows the user to access the Medar XWSS from select WIN32 clients.

This includes the installation of Hummingbird Exceed an industry standard X emulator for the PC along with customization to allow individual icons for each of the plant’s WSS.  A user will be able to access the WSS as if he/she were on the console.

WSS Unix Computer Tools

·        WSS to Tape - – Provides a step-by-step procedure to generate a tape backup of all the WSS setup data files.

·        Serv. to WSS – Provides a step-by-step procedure to resort a backup data file from the remoter WSS Backup Server to the WSS Unix computer. This also allows for a spare WSS computer to be installed and configure to an online WSS system in case of failure. A replacement computer can be installed and setup within less than one hour.

·        Tape to WSS – Provides a step-by-step procedure to restore a WSS backup tape to the WSS Unix computer.
